
'Cats Blank Murray St. and Southern Illinois in Doubleheader

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Northwestern swept its double-header on Saturday, beating Murray State, 7-0, and Southern Illinois, 1-0.
The Wildcats are 3-0 on the weekend and improve to 13-4 on the season.
Lauren Boyd and Lauren Dvorak combined for a shutout in game one. Boyd got the start and tossed three shutout innings, giving way to Dvorak who finished it off with four scoreless innings. Boyd and Dvorak allowed only four combined hits and one walk.
Maeve Nelson and Nikki Cuchran hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning to get the 'Cats on the board and they did not look back from there.
Northwestern tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth inning thanks to a Hannah Cady RBI-single and Grace Nieto two-run double to make it a five-run lead.
Lauren Caldrone wrapped up the win with her first-career home run in the seventh inning to make it a 7-0 game.
Hannah Cady tallied a career-high three hits and drove in a run, while Maeve Nelson singled, doubled, and homered to lead the Wildcat offense.
Danielle Williams was dominant yet again in game two, tossing her fourth seven-inning shutout of the season. Williams struck out 10 and allowed just four hits in her seven innings of work.
The 'Cats only offense came in the third inning when first-year Grace Nieto led off the inning with a double and came in to score on a Jordyn Rudd single. With hits in both games today, Nieto extends her hitting streak to seven games.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action tomorrow morning with another double header, as they take on Ball State at 10 a.m. CT and Northern Kentucky immediately following that game.
