Evanston, IL - Northwestern took the second game of a Friday doubleheader with Cincinnati, defeating the Bearcats 10-8 after dropping a close 5-4 decision in the first game of the afternoon.
Stephen Hrustich led the way for Northwestern with 3 RBIs in the victory, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning to extend Northwestern's lead over the Bearcats. The 'Cats would need every run, as Cincinnati battled back to tie things up in the eighth inning before Bennett Markinson delivered a two-out RBI in the top of the ninth to secure the victory for Northwestern.
Big Ten Freshman of the Week Sean Sullivan got the start for Northwestern, tossing five innings and striking out seven, while allowing three runs.
Anthony Calarco continued his hot start to the 2022 season with three RBIs in both games on Friday, giving the All-Big Ten first baseman 11 runs batted in across Northwestern's first ten games of the season. David Utagawa picked up the win against Cincinatti, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings.
