'Cats Defeat SIU in Sunday Split

Carbondale, IL - Northwestern Baseball ran their win streak to seven games with a 15-6 win over SIU, before falling to Butler 11-10 on a walk-off home run.

Ethan O'Donnell continued a dominant weekend with Northwestern's first six RBIs of the game against SIU - the sophomore got the Wildcats on the board with a two-run double in the first inning, before smacking his fourth homer of the weekend, a seventh-inning grand slam that put Northwestern back on top against the Salukis.

Northwestern would get plenty of insurance in the eighth inning, as a Jay Beshears' solo shot, Andrew Pinkston RBI single, Luke Tanner RBI single and Anthony Calarco home run would blow the game open. Tony Livermore added an RBI single in the ninth inning.

In two games against SIU, Northwestern tagged the Salukis for 25 runs.

Coby Moe got the win on Sunday, striking out four in three innings of one-run baseball.

In the second game of the afternoon against Butler, O'Donnell roped a three-run triple, his fourth extra-base hit and ninth RBI of the double header in the second inning. Later in the inning, Beshears clubbed his fourth home run of the weekend.

Northwestern begins Big Ten play this weekend as the 'Cats travel to Bloomington for a three-game series with Indiana, beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. CT.
