'Cats Open Season Against No. 1 Boston College and Marquette

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 4 Northwestern opens its season with two games this weekend, travelling to Chestnut Hill for a huge matchup at No. 1 Boston College on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT before hosting Marquette on Monday at 6 p.m. for the home opener at Ryan Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats are coming off a successful season which saw them go 15-1 (11-0 B1G) while winning their second-consecutive Big Ten Tournament and reaching the NCAA Tournament semifinals. Last year's winning percentage of .938 was the highest for a Northwestern team since a 23-0 undefeated season in 2009.
Graduate students Lauren Gilbert, Brennan Dwyer, Ally Palermo, and Jill Girardi headline a long list of returning players from last season.
Gilbert was named a First Team All-American attacker last season by IWLCA, as well as a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten member. Ally Palermo was also placed on the All-Big Ten First Team, while receiving Second and Third Team All-American honors by Inside Lacrosse and IWLCA, respectively.
Brennan Dwyer and Jill Girardi return to the Northwestern lineup after both being named to the 2021 Big Ten Women's Lacrosse All-Tournament team. Dwyer was also named Second Team All-Big Ten as a defender.
Northwestern's last matchup with Boston College came on March 9, 2019 at Ryan Fieldhouse, when the No. 1 Eagles defeated the 'Cats 22-17. Northwestern's last game against Marquette came two weeks later in Milwaukee with a 24-4 'Cats victory.
