EVANSTON, IL - Northwestern defended its home court in a 59-51 win over Indiana, extending its winning streak to three games and sealing the Wildcats' fifth conference win in front of a sold-out crowd.
Boo Buie led the Wildcats (12-10, 5-8 B1G) with 18 points on an efficient 8-of-18 shooting performance from the field, while Chase Audige chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Indiana (16-7, 7-6 B1G) finished with 51 points, the lowest of any Northwestern opponent in Big Ten play.
Northwestern stayed withing striking distance in the first half and trailed 30-26 at the break, despite shooting 30.6% (11-of-36) from the field. Buie dropped nine points in the first half, while Pete Nance added six rebounds.
The Wildcats' offense found its rhythm to start the second half, turning a 13-0 run into a 41-35 lead. An Audige offensive board that led to Robbie Beran's three capped off the run with 14:27 on the clock. Northwestern's defense played at a lockdown level, too, keeping the Hoosiers off the scoreboard for over five minutes.
The Wildcats kept their lead intact through the second half, extending their lead to eight points, 53-45, with under five minutes to go.
Northwestern finished off Indiana by sinking all four of its free throws and making a pair of defensive stops in the final minute.
In addition to prolific performances from Buie and Audige, the Wildcats saw strong contributions from their frontcourt. Nance notched his fifth game of the season with double-digit rebounds (10), and Ryan Young added seven points and six rebounds. The Northwestern bench was also a major factor, outscoring Indiana's bench 18-3. The Wildcats outrebounded the Hoosiers, 47-37.
Northwestern's will look to extend the win streak this Sunday in Champaign, Ill., where the Wildcats will face Illinois for the second time this season.
