EVANSTON, Ill. - Riding a three-game win streak, the Northwestern men's basketball team travels to No. 13 Illinois to complete the season series against the Fighting Illini at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13. The game will air on Big Ten Network with Brandon Gaudin (play-by-play) and Robbie Hummel (analyst) on the call. Dave Eanet (play-by-play) and Billy McKinney (analyst) will describe the action on AM 720 WGN.
The Wildcats (12-10, 5-8 B1G) grinded out a 59-51 victory over Indiana inside Welsh-Ryan Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 8. A 13-0 run just minutes into the second half propelled the team to victory after it trailed 30-26 at halftime. NU used a 47-37 rebounding advantage to defeat the Hoosiers for the fourth time in the last five home meetings.
Boo Buie led the team in scoring for the third straight game, dropping 18 points while also adding three boards. When Buie leads the team in scoring, the Wildcats are 5-3 this year. His 15.5 ppg paces the team and ranks 11th in the Big Ten. Pete Nance is right behind Buie averaging 15.1 ppg. Northwestern hasn't had two 15.0+ ppg scorers in the same season since Jon Shurna (20.0) and Drew Crawford (16.1) in 2011-12.
As a team, NU tallied 16 offensive rebounds against Indiana. The Wildcats are tied with Purdue for the Big Ten lead averaging 11.1 offensive rebounds per game in conference-only contests.
Chase Audige forced two steals against Indiana and is averaging 1.86 per game, the third-best mark in the Big Ten during league-only games. The guard has recorded two or more swipes in each of the last four games.
Sunday's game will be the 186th all-time between the two schools with Illinois holding a 120-53 lead. NU took Illinois to the wire earlier this season on Jan. 29, falling 59-56 at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Nance led the team scoring 21 points and grabbing five rebounds. The Wildcats are looking for their first win in Urbana-Champaign since Jan. 17, 2013 (68-54).
Illinois (17-6, 10-3 B1G) is in second place of the Big Ten Standings and is coming off an 84-68 loss at No. 3 Purdue.
Northwestern returns home at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16 to battle Purdue on Big Ten Network.
