Nelson Walks-Off No. 3 UCLA As 'Cats Sweep Double-Header

Maeve Nelson delivered the knockout punch against UCLA, blasting a two-strike, two-out, three-run home run to take down the No. 3 team in the country.

It marks Northwetern's first top-3 win since March 25, 2016, when the 'Cats took down No. 2 Michigan.
After striking out five in 1.2 innings pitched earlier in the day, Danielle Williams got the start against UCLA and battled to hold the potent Bruin lineup to just two earned runs over eight fantastic innings.
Down 2-0 in the fifth inning, Angela Zedak ripped a double in the gap and scored on a Nikki Cuchran RBI-single to get the 'Cats on the board.
One inning later, Rachel Lewis crushed a two-out home run to tie the game at two.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Jordyn Rudd kept Northwestern alive with a RBI-single to bring Nelson to the plate.
Earlier in the day against Texas Tech, the 'Cats put up 13 hits and nine runs to back a pitching staff of Lauren Dvorak, Sydney Supple, and Danielle Williams.
Skyler Shellmyer went 4-for-5 and scored three runs, while Jordyn Rudd and Nikki Cuchran each contributed two hits. In her first game of the season, Sydney Supple smoked a double and triple to go along with five strikeouts in the circle over 3.1 innings pitched.
Angela Zedak also launched her first home run of the season in the third inning against Texas Tech.
