EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern visits Minnesota on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off at Williams Arena, with streaming on B1G+ and WNUR Sports.
The Wildcats are coming off a four-day, two-win road trip last weekend at Purdue and Penn State to snap a four-game skid at a crucial juncture of the season. The 'Cats overcame an eight-point fourth quarter deficit at Penn State to win 78-72.
In the win at Penn State, five players scored in double-digits for the first time since Dec. 12, 2020, a 93-57 win in the season opener against Eastern Kentucky. The 'Cats also made 10 threes for the first time since Feb. 19 of 2020 against Rutgers.
Veronica Burton was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll for her efforts on the weekend, averaging 24.0 points, 5.5 assists, 5.0 steals, and 4.5 rebounds on 57% shooting. She finished with 22 points and eight assists on Sunday.
Burton earned two other accolades on the week, being named as one of 10 point guards to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch list and one of 30 players on the Naismith Trophy Midseason Watch List. She was named to the Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year Watch List last week.
She ranks in the top-ten nationally in win shares, steals per game, assist-to-turnover ratio, assists per game, FTM and FTA.
The 'Cats lead the all-time series vs. Minnesota 38-37 and have won the last two matchups. Last year the 'Cats won 80-51 behind a 20-point, 10-assist double-double from Burton.
Northwestern's last visit to the Williams Center was an instant classic in 2020. Aside from Minnesota native Abi Scheid scoring 24 points in her homecoming, the 'Cats won 56-54 on a last second shot from Lindsey Pulliam assisted by Burton.
