Beran Records Double-Double in Northwestern's Win over Prairie View A&M

EVANSTON, Ill. - Robbie Beran secured a double-double and tied his career-high with 20 points and pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds to help the Northwestern men's basketball defeat Prairie View A&M  61-51 at home on Sunday.

The Wildcats (7-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Beran. Boo Buie tacked on 12 points and seven assists and Chase Audige helped out with 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and four blocks.

The Northwestern defense held Prairie View A&M shooters to just 29 percent from the field, including 28.6 percent from three-point range. The Wildcats also kept Jeremiah Gambrell to 6-of-22 shooting in the game.

How It Happened

After falling behind 24-17, Northwestern went on a 7-0 run with 3:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Buie, to tie the game at 24. Prairie View A&M then pulled ahead, sending the Wildcats into halftime down 29-24.

After intermission, Northwestern kept the Panthers from increasing their lead before going on a 9-0 run to seize a 51-47 lead with 6:17 to go in the contest. The Wildcats kept expanding the margin and went on a 19-4 run to close out the game. The 'Cats limited PVAMU (4-5) to only 22 points in the second half.

Game Notes
» Northwestern has held six of its nine opponents this season under 60 points. NU held seven opponents under 60 points in all of the 2021-22 season, and did so just five times in both 2019-20 and 2020-21.
» Matthew Nicholson pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds and tied his career-high with nine points. All nine of his points came in the second half.
» The Wildcats blocked eight shots, with Audige recording a career-high four.
» Audige is the first NU player with 5+ rebounds, 3+ steals, 3+ blocks, and 3+ assists in a game since John Shurna on Feb 18, 2012 against Minnesota.
» Northwestern won the turnover battle, 16-9.

Northwestern plays next at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 17 against crosstown rival DePaul inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
