'Cats Rout DePaul 83-45 for Rivalry Victory

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern opened the game on a 22-5 run and never looked back in an 83-45 win over the DePaul Blue Demons at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday. The 38 point margin-of-victory is the largest ever in Northwestern/DePaul series history.

The Wildcats (8-2) had two players score in double figures, led by a career-high 28 points from Chase Audige. Audige's performance earned him the McGrath-Fisher Award, given to the MVP of the Northwestern/DePaul game.
The Northwestern offense made hay from downtown, making 13 threes on 33 attempts. Audige hit a career-high six triples for the Wildcats in the contest.
The Northwestern defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 22 DePaul turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 19 points on the other end of the floor. Audige's five steals led the way individually for the Wildcats and tied a career-high for the senior from Coram, N.Y.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-5 advantage, Northwestern went on an 11-0 run with 14:02 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Brooks Barnhizer, to increase its lead to 22-5. The Wildcats entered halftime with a 39-26 advantage. Northwestern relied on its three-point shooting in the first half, knocking down eight treys, its most in any half this season.
Following the break, Northwestern expanded the lead to 66-39, before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Robbie Beran's three, to grow the lead to 76-39 with 5:44 to go in the contest. The Wildcats coasted the rest of the way for the 83-45 win. Northwestern capitalized on 12 DePaul turnovers in the period, collecting 13 points off those turnovers, and outscoring DePaul 19-6 in points off turnovers for the game.
