Northwestern to Meet Michigan in Big Ten Tournament Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 4 Northwestern (three seed) meets No. 6 Michigan (four seed) in the Big Ten Tournament championship game Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. The game is slated for 11 a.m. CT and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
STORYLINES
» Sunday marks Northwestern's third ever appearance in the Big Ten Tournament title game, most recently beating Maryland for the 2014 tournament championship. The Wildcats made their first conference championship appearance against Iowa in 1994 in Columbus. A win for the Wildcats would mean their eighth Big Ten title (regular season or tournament) and their first since that final in 2014.
» Senior captain Peyton Halsey has fueled Northwestern's run through the tournament with goals in both games, both on penalty strokes. Halsey's first came midway through overtime in the quarterfinals against Rutgers to walk off the Scarlet Knights, her second overtime golden goal from the spot this season, and the second gave Northwestern its crucial second goal before halftime against Maryland. The Reading, Pennsylvania native is now a perfect four-of-four on penalty strokes this season.
» 2022 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Kayla Blas played her 100th career game in Friday's semifinal, becoming the first player in Northwestern history to reach the milestone. Blas leads the team and ranks second in the Big Ten in assists.
» Senior midfielder Alia Marshall has recorded at least one point in five straight games, a streak she extended with a goal just four minutes into the Big Ten semifinals. Marshall has put together a dominant postseason, with a goal, an assist and a defensive save over the first two games. She has scored four goals in her postseason career.
» The Wildcats carry a seven-game win streak into the championship game, their second longest this season after starting a perfect 8-0. They have won six straight games in Columbus, a streak that dates back to 2015, and seven straight games at neutral sites since last November. Chicago's Big Ten Team has gone 11-1 outside of Evanston in 2022.
» Northwestern won the regular season matchup with Michigan 1-0 (2OT) in arguably the game of the year. Lauren Wadas scored the walk-off goal with 37 left in double overtime as the Wildcats secured an 80-minute shutout victory.
