THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. Northwestern held Penn State to 17 points last week, their lowest scoring output of the season. The Wildcat defense forced five turnovers in the game, their most since 2020 vs. Wisconsin. It marks the most turnovers committed in a game by Penn State since the 2011 Outback Bowl. Bryce Gallagher was apart of three different takeaways, recording an INT, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, while his fellow LB Xander Mueller registered a career-high 14 total tackles. Gallagher, Xander Mueller and Cam Mitchell (11 total tackles) became the first trio of Wildcats to all record double-digit tackles in the same game since Coco Azema, Brandon Joseph, Chris Bergin and Bryce Gallagher all broke 10 tackles against Michigan on Oct. 23, 2021.

  2. Adetomiwa Adebawore already has 15 pressures and 12 run stops this season, per Pro Football Focus. Adebawore led the 'Cats with 4.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss last year on his way to All-Big Ten honors. The Athletic's Bruce Feldman selected Adebawore to his annual "Freak List," spotlighting 100 players in college football displaying extraordinarily unique physical abilities. Notable accolades for Adebawore include: 30 bench press reps (225 lbs), 37.5" vertical leap, 20-yd shuffle time of 4.05. PFF's Mike Renner place Adebawore 29th overall in his 2023 NFL Mock Draft this week.

  3. Wisconsin leads the all-time series, 61-37-5, but NU is 5-7 vs. the Badgers in the Pat Fitzgerald era. Dating back to 2017, the home team in this matchup has won each of the last five meetings. Since 2000, the Wildcats are 6-1 vs. the Badgers at Ryan Field. In each of the last two games at Ryan Field, the Wildcats have held the Badgers scoreless in the second half. In the last game at Ryan Field in 2020, #19 Northwestern defeated #10 Wisconsin 17-7. Northwestern earned its first Top-10 win since 2011 with a historic defensive effort. The 'Cats did not allow the Badgers to take a single snap out of the red zone and forced five turnovers in the game (three interceptions, two fumble recoveries). Blake Gallagher (brother of current NU captain and MLB, Bryce) led all players that game with 14 total tackles.
