THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
-
This week, Peter Skoronski was named to the Midseason All-America Team by Pro Football Focus and the Associated Press. Skoronski is graded as the top pass-protector in the country by PFF, with a 93.0 pass blocking grade. He has allowed only two pressures on 278 pass-blocking snaps (0.7% pressure rate), the best among all tackles in the country. • According to PFF, his 80.3 run-blocking grade also ranks 8th best among all Power 5 tackles.
- Blake Gallagher ranks second in the Big Ten with 5.0 solo tackles per game. It is the third straight season that the 'Cats have had a player rack up 30+ solo tackles in their first six games of the season, with Gallagher joining Chris Bergin (42 tackles in 2021) and Paddy Fisher (33 tackles in 2020). It is the first time since 2012-14 that Northwestern has had three consecutive seasons of this achievement.
- Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald was on the same Maryland coaching staff as current Maryland HC Mike Locksley in 1998. Fitzgerald served as a grad assistant for the Terrapins, while Locksley was the running backs coach/recruiting coordinator under then-head coach Ron Vanderlinden. Saturday is just the third meeting between Northwestern and Maryland in the two programs histories. The Wildcats are 2-0 against the Terrapins, with the last matchup coming on opening night of the 2020 season, when the 'Cats exploded for a 43-3 victory. Peyton Ramsey was flawless in his first game for Northwestern, completing 23-of-30 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcat defense forced four turnovers, including interceptions by JR Pace, A.J. Hampton, and Coco Azema. The 'Cats rushed for 325 yards behind Drake Anderson, Isaiah Bowser, and Evan Hull, each of whom scored a touchdown.
