'Cats Host Cougars For Friday Doubleheader To Begin Duals Season

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern men's tennis hosts Chicago State for a doubleheader Friday at Combe Tennis Center to kick off the 2022 duals season.

The first match begins at 3:30 p.m. CT on Friday while the second match is at 8 p.m. CT. 

Streaming for both matches can be found at Studio N here. One day passes cost $3.95 and monthly passes cost $6.95 per month.

Attendance is free for all fans visiting the Combe Tennis Center. Parking is free after 4 p.m. CT in the North Campus Garage.

In accordance with the Evanston Health and Human Services Department's mitigation, a vaccine requirement is in effect for all Northwestern Athletics indoor events and remains in effect until further notice.

All guests and working personnel ages five and older are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of the event. Face masks continue to be required and must be worn during all home indoor athletic events regardless of vaccination status.

The Wildcats are coming off of a strong fall where Simen Bratholm and Brian Berdusco claimed a Big Ten doubles championship. Bratholm advanced to the singles final in the event as well. 

The 'Cats return four contributors from their singles lineup last season in Bratholm, Trice Pickens, Steven Forman and Presley Thieneman. The program added graduate transfer Br. Berdusco who was accomplished doubles player at Florida, the 2021 spring season National Champions. 

Head Coach Arvid Swan also welcomed in two highly touted first years in Felix Nordby and Max Bengtsson. The two combined to make up the No. 12 recruiting class in the country according to Tennis Recruiting Network.

Nordby was ranked as the No. 1 junior in Norway and has competed on the Norwegian Davis Cup team alongside teammate Bratholm and Casper Ruud, ranked in the top ten on the ATP Tour.

Bengtsson comes as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Illinois and was ranked as high as No. 3 nationally.

The Wildcats advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021, defeating No. 23 UCLA in the first round before falling to No. 4 Texas.
