EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns home Wednesday night to faceΒ local rival DePaul at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
Northwestern holds a 2-5-2 record while the Blue Demons sit at 5-2 on the season. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 18-10-3 against DePaul with the sides battling to a 1-1 draw in the last meeting in October 2018. Head Coach Russell Payne's crew aims to lift its non-conference record above .500 with a win over the Blue Demons.
The Wildcats enter Wednesday's clash coming off their first week of conference play. Midfielder Vicente Castro and forward Justin Weiss caught fire against Big Ten opponents last week. Weiss collected two goals and an assist over the three games while Castro recorded a goal and an assist. Castro's goal gave Northwestern a 1-0 lead at the half over No. 11 Indiana in front of a full house at Martin Stadium.
The attacking combo look to stay hot against a DePaul team that has looked strong in games against Big Ten opponents this year. The Big East squad won 1-0 on the road against Wisconsin on September 5 after securing a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match with Indiana.
DePaul's Head Coach MarkΒ PloktinΒ has deep and ongoing ties to Northwestern, having spent two years as director of operations for the Wildcats prior to taking the job at DePaul.Β PloktinΒ also is currently working on his master's degree in sports administration from Northwestern. He is 0-1-1 against the 'Cats while at the helm for DePaul.
