'Cats Split Series at Purdue in a Pair of Pitcher's Duels

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Northwestern split a pair of low-scoring affairs on Saturday afternoon to come away with a series split at Purdue in the Wildcats' penultimate regular season series.
After dropping a narrow 1-0 setback in game one of the doubleheader, the 'Cats responded with a 1-0 victory of their own in game two behind a six-hit shutout from Danielle Williams in which she struck out eight. It marked the sixth shutout of the season for Williams, who improved to 15-5 on the season.
The Wildcats totaled six hits in game one, led by a multi-hit effort from Angela Zedak who finished 2-for-3 on the game. Lauren Boyd allowed just five hits and one run over 6.0 innings of action in the circle.
In game two, the Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Jordyn Rudd drove in Rachel Lewis with an RBI-single of the middle. Lewis reached base three times in game two and recorded a pair of stolen bases to bring her total to 25 on the year. Nikki Cuchran turned in a multi-hit effort in game two, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
With a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Williams stranded the bases loaded with her eighth strikeout of the evening to secure the victory.
The Wildcats will return to action next weekend as they host Nebraska in their final regular season series. The four game series beings on Friday, May 14.
