'Cats Open Weekend With 4-1 Win at No. 20 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northwestern softball opened a crucial four-game series at No. 20 Michigan with a convincing 4-1 win over the Wolverines on Friday evening.
The Wildcats were powered by Danielle Williams, who allowed just two hits while striking out six en route to her 13th win of the season. Exactly one week removed from a perfect game at Iowa, Williams carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and ultimately faced just 22 Michigan batters on the game, one more than the minimum amount.
Jordyn Rudd led the Wildcat offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, marking her team-leading 10th multi-hit game of the season. Rudd also caught Michigan's Natalia Rodrgiuez trying to steal not once but twice on the evening.
Rachel Lewis put the 'Cats on the board in the third inning with a clutch two-out single through the left side to bring around Mac Dunlap and extend her hitting streak to seven-straight games.
The 'Cats loaded the bases and capitalized on another opportunity in the fifth inning, with Rudd driving in two runs via an RBI-double off the left field fence. Two batters later, Angela Zedak extended the lead to 4-0 with a deep sacrifice fly.
The Wildcats' four runs mark the most runs allowed by the Wolverines in 42 days. Northwestern and Michigan will be back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 am CT on Big Ten Network+.
