Northwestern Takes Series, But Falls to Iowa 5-2 in Finale
4/18/2021 3:37:00 PM | Softball
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern was unable to complete a sweep of Iowa and fell to the Hawkeyes, 5-2, on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Iowa came out on fire in the first inning with a grand slam earning a 4-0 advantage. Angela Zedak responded immediately in the second with a solo homer, but that would be it for the Wildcats' scoring in the inning.
The Hawkeyes grabbed another run in the third, extending their advantage to four once again. Zedak managed to score again in the fourth with some nifty base running, but the 'Cats were unable to pull even.
Lauren Boyd only allowed one run in five innings of pitching, with just five hits and four strikeouts, but unfortunately the Iowa pitching staff followed suit. The 'Cats were unable to find any daylight and dropped the game, but won the series with three victories earlier in the weekend.
The 'Cats will be back on the field next weekend to face Michigan in Ann Arbor. Their weekend series against the Wolverines will start on Friday at 5 p.m, with coverage live on ESPNU.
