
‘Cats Remain Undefeated After Another Double-Header Sweep

LEESBURG, Fla. – Northwestern softball remains undefeated after sweeping Rutgers in a doubleheader on Saturday to improve to 4-0 on the season.. The 'Cats dominated the scoreboard, winning their first game 8-0 and their second 10-1.
Sophomore Sydney Supple brought the heat early on, allowing for only three hits and zero runs during the first game. Supple also logged three RBI and one run, making it a very successful day for the sophomore pitcher.
The second inning was all about runs for the Wildcats. Senior Mac Dunlap was the first to put something on the scoreboard Saturday morning with a run in the second inning. First-year Hannah Cady was the next to put one up for the Wildcats after Senior Rachel Lewis singled one to center field. This was Cady's first career run scored. Lewis continued to up the score for the Wildcats in the second after running it home thanks to junior Maeve Nelson who singled one to second base. Junior Skyler Shellmyer closed out the inning with another run for the Wildcats, giving them a 4-0 lead going into the third.
The 'Cats did not stop here and remained aggressive throughout the fourth and fifth innings, adding five more to the board. Shellmyer continued to run the bases in the fourth scoring the team's first after a scoreless inning. To finish off the fifth and seal the win, sophomore Angela Zedak, graduate student Morgan Newport, and senior Maegan Hollins all found the home plate to put the 'Cats up 8-0 and close out their first game.
The Wildcats did not slow their roll going into the second game. Within the first inning, Maeve Nelson, Rachel Lewis, Jordyn Rudd, Morgan Newport, Nikki Cuchran all scored pushing the 'Cats forward 5-0 going into the second. Angela Zedak found home base during the second inning for her second time of the day along with Shellmyer who scored once again in the third. To polish off the third inning, and put the Wildcats up 10-0, graduate student Emma Bartz found her first point of the day followed by Hannah Cady who picked up her second of the day.
Both junior Danielle Williams and first-year Lauren Boyd had their arms firing for 'Cats throughout the entire second game. Williams pitched three innings, allowing for only one hit and no runs while Boyd closed out the game in the final two innings.
The 'Cats will take on the Penn State Nittany Lions tomorrow morning in another double-header with hopes of continuing their winning streak. The first pitch of game one is set for 9 a.m. CT, followed by a 11:30 a.m. CT pitch to kick off game two. Both games will be televised on BTN+.
