EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern was unable to hold off a second half surge from the Penn State Nittany Lions as the Wildcats suffered their first setback of the season on Thursday night at Ryan Fieldhouse.
Playing in just her second-career game, first-year Josie Aulicino led the way for Northwestern. Aulicino finished the game with a team-leading three shots on goal and netted the 'Cats lone goal of the evening. Trailing 1-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half, Aulicino struck with an equalizer from nearly 25 yards away for her first-career goal. Marianna Annest recorded an assist on the goal.
Heading into the second half tied 1-1, Penn State reclaimed the lead following a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second frame. The Nittany Lions were able to extend the lead further with two additional second half goals by Ally Schlegel.
Northwestern will be back in action this Sunday, February 28 as the Wildcats return to their home turf at Ryan Fieldhouse to take on Maryland. Kick-off is slated for 12 pm CT, with action televised live on BTN+.
