CLEMSON, S.C. – Northwestern overcame a 13-point deficit at Clemson to win 72-61 on Thursday behind a career-high 32 points for senior guard Veronica Burton

The 'Cats earned the victory for the Big Ten in the B1G/ACC Challenge to improve to 5-3 on the season while dropping Clemson to 4-3. It was the second straight win in the challenge for NU.

Burton turned in one of the signature games of her career, scoring 32 points on 8-13 shooting and a 14-15 clip from the free throw line along with five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. The last 30-point game by a Wildcat was in February of 2020 when Lindsey Pulliam scored 31 against Michigan State.

First year Caileigh Walsh chipped in with 10 points and senior Courtney Shaw added 10 rebounds.

Rookies Melannie Daley and Jillian Brown added eight points each.

The 'Cats outshot the Tigers at the three-point line, registering 44% on 7-16 shooting while holding the hosts to 13%.

Northwestern is back in action on Sunday with its Big Ten opener against Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT at Welsh-Ryan Arena on B1G+.
