EVANSTON, Ill. — Coming off a decisive win in its season opener over the Eastern Illinois Panthers, Northwestern hosts High Point on Friday for a showdown with a new group of Panthers.

Friday marks the first-ever meeting between Northwestern and High Point, a member of the Big South Conference since the 1999-2000 season. Both teams look to build winning streaks after wins in their season openers. The Wildcats are 190-93 all-time in their first games against new opponents, while High Point is still looking for its first win against a Big Ten team in eight tries.

Northwestern wreaked havoc in its 80-56 win against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, generating 19 turnovers, while still taking care of the ball with a 3.8 assist to turnover ratio. Robbie Beran and Boo Buie both set career highs with five steals apiece.

Starting at point guard, Buie put together a career night all around, scoring 17 points while recording six assists and three rebounds in addition to the five steals. He represents a key cog in Northwestern's strong veteran presence this season with four returning starters from last season.

Some new faces also impressed in the opener, including Casey Simmons, the highest rated recruit in Northwestern history, who started in his first collegiate game Tuesday. He combined with fellow first-year Julian Roper II to compile 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and a block. Graduate transfer Elyjah Williams also got in on the action in his first regular season game with the 'Cats, scoring nine points and adding four rebounds and two assists.

Tip off is slated for 7 p.m. CT with live coverage on Big Ten+ and ESPN 1000 AM.
