
'Cats Fall to No. 8 Nittany Lions in Double Overtime

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 4 Northwestern dropped a narrow 2-1 decision at No. 8 Penn State in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.
This marked the third-straight meeting in which the Wildcats and Nittany Lions have gone to at least double overtime.
Annabel Skubisz turned in a fantastic effort in goal, recording a career-high 11 saves in 75 minutes of action.
Penn State held a 17-15 advantage in shots, including a 13-4 differential in shots on goal. NU held an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners throughout the game, including having six opportunities in the fourth quarter which led to their game-tying goal.
Bente Baekers evened the game for the 'Cats with under two minutes left in regulation, finishing off a successful penalty corner attempt assisted by Clara Roth and Ana Medina Garcia. It marked Baekers' 10th goal of the season and her second goal of the weekend.
Penn State's Sophia Gladieux scored the game-winner with 2:30 left in the double overtime period. The setback drops Northwestern to 9-3 on the season.
Northwestern returns to action on Friday, October 8 for a meeting at #2 Michigan in Ann Arbor beginning at 5 pm CT.
