Wilkey Tosses One-Hitter in Run-Rule Victory

LOUISVILLE, KY. - Northwestern capped off a Saturday double-header with a 9-1 run-rule victory over Evansville in five innings.
Kenna Wilkey got the start for the Wildcats and did not disappoint. She allowed only one hit and one run over 5.0 innings, while picking up a season-high nine strikeouts.
Rachel Lewis manufactured the 'Cats first run all by herself. She led off the inning with a single and immediately advanced to third on a stolen base and error, then came around to score on a wild pitch.
The Wildcats exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second, thanks to four hits and three walks. Angela Zedak and Lewis both picked up RBI singles and scored in the inning. The inning was capped off by a clutch two-out, bases clearing triple by sophomore Jordyn Rudd, who also came around to score on a wild pitch. Rudd now has five RBI on the weekend.
Going into the fifth inning, the Wildcats' needed one run to end the via the run-rule, and that is exactly what they got. After Morgan Newport reached on a walk, Emma Bartz entered as a pinch-runner and stole second. Kenna Wilkey delivered the final blow for the 'Cats with a two-out single to score Bartz and give Northwestern the victory.
The 'Cats will look to finish the weekend strong tomorrow with a rematch against Oakland at 9 a.m. CT.
