Hawkins Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - After a successful opening to the spring season, senior Everton Hawkins was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the Conference announced on Wednesday.
Hawkins went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend to help the Wildcats claim their conference-leading fifth Big Ten Match Play Championship title. The Irvine, CA. native defeated Iowa's Mac McClear, 3&2 in the second round on Friday afternoon on the Ocean Course of the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. followed by a 4&2 victory against Nebraska's Mark Foelbaek before defeating Penn State's Louis Olsakovsky, 5&4 in the championship match.
He also claimed a match over Purdue's Jason Hong, 6&5 in the Friday morning dual match.
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree, Hawkins was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the second time in his career. The last Wildcat to earn the weekly accolade was David Nyfjäll this past October.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will head west to compete in the Prestige presented by Charles Schwab in La Quinta, Ca. beginning Feb 17.
