Evanston, Ill.-
The Northwestern Wildcats will play their third game of the season and second at Ryan Field on Saturday as they welcome the Nebraska Cornhuskers to Evanston.

NU has a chance to start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2015, when it won its first five games. The last time the 'Cats started 3-0 in Big Ten play was 2000. Northwestern trailed by 14 points (28-14) with 13:40 remaining in regulation in the previous tilt against Nebraska, scoring the game-tying touchdown with just 12 seconds left in the final frame after former quarterback Clayton Thorson led an 8-play, 99-yard drive. Former kicker Drew Luckenbaugh drilled the game-winning 37-yard field goal in overtime, giving the 'Cats their fourth win in what at the time was eight years of conference play against the Huskers.

Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011, the matchup between the Wildcats and Cornhuskers has produced several chaotic finishes. Seven of the nine games played have been decided by seven points or fewer and six have been within a field goal. The previous two meetings finished on a walk-off field goal.

The Cornhuskers enter the game with plenty of rest, as they had their previous game against Wisconsin canceled due to a COVID-19 breakout within the Badgers program. Nebraska lost its season opener against Ohio State, 52-17. Head coach Scott Frost is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater.

STORYLINES:
  • Down, But Never Out: The Wildcats overcame a 17-point deficit against Iowa on October 31. It was the largest comeback for the program in Big Ten play since Oct. 24, 2009, when NU defeated Indiana from 25 down.
  • Anchoring the Defense: Northwestern's senior linebacker trio of Chris Bergin, Paddy Fisher and Blake Gallagher accounted for 34 of the team's 64 tackles against Iowa. Each player had at least 10 tackles.
  • Clutch Offense: All of the Wildcats' touchdowns (3) against Iowa were scored on third down.  Northwestern is 18-35 (51.4%) on third down and a perfect 5-5 on fourth down through two games this season.
