EVANSTON, Ill.- The Northwestern Wildcats will have their first road test Saturday as they travel to Big Ten West foe Iowa. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN and WGN 720 AM radio from Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
NU has had its fair share of success when facing the Hawkeyes away from Ryan Field recently, having won at Kinnick Stadium in 2018 and 2016. The 2018 victory notably served as the clincher that sent the 'Cats to their first Big Ten Championship Game and awarded them with the Big Ten West title. The last time Northwestern won three straight games at Kinnick Stadium was 2006, 2008 and 2009.
The Hawkeyes enter Week 2 at 0-1 after suffering a 24-20 defeat to Purdue on October 24. Head Coach Kirk Ferentz, who in his 22nd season owns the most wins all-time for any Iowa coach (162), is below .500 in his career against NU (9-10). Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald is 8-6 in his career against the Iowa, having won three of the last four when facing the Hawkeyes.
STORYLINES:
Fitz Hits Triple Digits: Pat Fitzgerald picked up his 100th career victory after Northwestern defeated Maryland 43-3 in the season opener. He currently ranks 25th among active FBS coaches in wins.
An Offensive Statement: New offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian led the 'Cats to a tremendous performance against Maryland. NU's 537 yards was the most out of any Big Ten team in Week 1 and the 40-point margin of victory was the program's largest over a conference opponent since 1970 (Northwestern defeated Illinois 48-0).
Ramsey Wastes No Time Adjusting: Graduate transfer Peyton Ramsey became the first Wildcat quarterback to throw for at least 200 yards in his debut since Dan Persa did so against Vanderbilt in 2010 (222). His efficient 23-30 stat line led to 212 yards of passing offense with one score. The former Indiana quarterback rushed for 47 yards and found the endzone on the ground as well.
