Wildcats Come Back but Settle for Draw Against Chippewas

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern fought back for an 85th minute equalizer against Central Michigan, but were held to an overtime draw by the Chippewas despite their domination on Thursday night at Martin Stadium.
The Wildcats earned their first point on the season thanks to a clutch strike from first year Rowan Lapi in the 85th minute for her first career goal.
Northwestern is back in action on Sunday at Martin Stadium when it hosts William & Mary for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Match Notes
- Lapi scored the first goal of the season for the Wildcats on their tenth shot of the game. It was her first career goal, and the first goal scored by a Wildcat first year since Haley Laswon scored against Michigan in September of 2018 in a 4-1 win.
- First year Marianna Annest made her first career start.
- Junior Madi Kennel returned to the pitch after missing all but the first four games on 2018 with an injury, making her season debut with 22 minutes played.
- The Wildcats outshot the Chippewas 15-3, and had a corner kick advantage of 10-0. Northwestern outpossessed the visitors 64% to 36% after owning just 53% of the possession in the first half.
- Junior Regan Steigleder had a team-high six shots on goal, and was credited with the assist on Lapi's strike.
- Northwestern completely dominated the second half, outshooting CMU 6-0, and kept up the pressure with a 5-0 shot advantage in overtime.
