Wildcats Dominate Maryland to Win First Big Ten Tournament Title

BALTIMORE, Md. — Northwestern dominated from start to finish to win its first Big Ten Tournament title with a win over No. 1 Maryland Sunday afternoon, 16-11. 
Senior Selena Lasota and first year Izzy Scane each scored four goals, junior Lindsey McKone had six points on a hat trick and three assists and senior goalkeeper Mallory Weisse made double digit saves for the sixth consecutive game to hold the nation's top-ranked team at bay. 
The Wildcats outscored the Terrapins in the first half, 10-4, holding them to their largest first half deficit since the 2007 season. After trading goals through the first 20 minutes of play, the Wildcats went on a five-goal run to close out the half and give them a six-goal advantage going into halftime.
The 'Cats held onto their lead through the second half and put the an exclamation point on the trophy-raising victory with goals from Lasota, McKone and a final empty net goal from sophomore Lauren Gilbert. 
Sophomore Brennan Dwyer was a deciding factor in the circle for the 'Cats, winning nine of the 19 NU draws. Senior Kim Harker contributed a season-high five draw controls to help Northwestern out-draw the Terps 19-10.
With this win, Northwestern hands Maryland their the first of the season and the second Big Ten loss in program history.I'll take that!

En route to winning the 2019 Big Ten Championship, Selena Lasota, Brennan Dwyer, Izzy Scane and Lindsey McKone were named to the All-Tournament team. After holding Maryland to their fewest goals all season, Mallory Weisse was voted to the All-Tournament team and was awarded the title of 2019 Big Ten Tournament MVP.Lasota sends an absolute rocket past the goalie to put the 'Cats up 4??! ??

Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back on the field as they look towards to the 2019 NCAA Tournament which is set to begin May 10th.
