‘Cats Cruise Past Wolverines, Advance to B1G Championship

BALTIMORE, Md. – For the third time in six years, Northwestern will played for a Big Ten Championship after defeating No. 3 seed Michigan, 19-9.
Led by a team-high five goals from both senior Selena Lasota and sophomore Lauren Gilbert, the Wildcats outscored the Wolverines 10-6 in the first half and 9-3 in the second. The 'Cats had contributions from junior Lindsey McKone and first-year Izzy Scane each scoring three goals, Claire Quinn had two and Liza Elder had one. McKone and Scane also combined for five assists.
The two teams traded goals back and forth early in the first half, before with Cats went on a 7-2 run with just over 18:30 left in the first half to go up four goals. NU carried their momentum into the second half, going on a 7-1 run in the first 10 minutes to take a 17-7 lead and claim a spot in the championship game on Sunday.
In goal for the 'Cats, senior Mallory Weisse made a game-high 10 saves for her fifth-consecutive double digit game.
Northwestern will face off against top-seed Maryland Sunday afternoon at 11 am CT at Homewood Field for the 2019 Big Ten championship title.
