EAST LANSING, MI – Northwestern defeated Michigan State, 5-2, for its fourth Big Ten win of the season on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats started the match off strong, claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Trice Pickens and Antonioni Fasano took the first win, defeating MSU's Ivan Rakic and Colin Harvey, 6-3. The duo of Simen Bratholm and Ben Vandixhorn secured the doubles point, taking down Carson Gates and Billy Shisler, 6-2.
In singles play, the Spartans took the first point, winning at the No.4 position. The 'Cats took the next two points with Trice Pickens dropping Carson Gates in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 and Jason Seidman defeating Billy Shisler, 6-2, 6-3. MSU won the next point, bring to bring the score to 3-2. Fasano clinched the match for the Wildcats, making quick work of Michigan State's Ivan Rakic, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Ephron punctuated the NU win, defeating Anthony Pero in three sets, 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 1-0 (10-3).
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back on the court April 12 to take on Ohio State at Combe Tennis Center at 6 pm.
