‘Cats Head to Columbus for Season Finale

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will head to Columbus to take on Ohio State Thursday afternoon in their final game of the regular season.
The Wildcats are currently 11-4 this season after back-to-back wins against top-10 teams, #8 Michigan and #4 Notre Dame.
Against the Wolverines, senior Selena Lasota led with a game-high four goals, Lauren Gilbert contributed three, first-year Izzy Scane had two and Megan Kinna, Emily Stein, Lindsey McKone, Jill Girardi and Claire Quinn each scored one. Senior goalkeeper Mallory Weisse was in-goal for the 'Cats and had a game-high 11 saves.
In their Saturday night match-up against the Fighting Irish, Lasota continued to lead NU in scoring with a game-high five goals. Gilbert and Scane each contributed three goals, McKone had two and Quinn and Senior Liza Elder each had one. Weisse was once again a force in the net, pulling in a career-high 14 saves.
Coming off of two top-10 wins, the #B1GCats swept Big Ten weekly awards with Scane, Weisse and Lasota earning the freshman, offensive and defensive players of the week.
The Wildcats are 15-3 all-time against the Buckeyes, with the 'Cats winning their last meeting in 2018, 20-6.
Thursday's game is set to take place at Ohio Stadium with a 3:30 pm CT start. The game will also be televised on Big Ten Network.
WEEKLY HONORS
After two top-10 wins, Northwestern has swept the weekly Big Ten awards. For the sixth consecutive week, first-year Izzy Scane has earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award, the most of any first-year since the award began. Senior Selena Lasota earned her third Offensive Player of the Week award of the season and the eighth of her career. After a career high 14 saves against Maryland, senior Mallory Weisse earned her first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award of the season and the fourth of her career.
LASOTA TOPS THE LIST
In the Wildcats' win against No. 8 Michigan, senior Selena Lasota claimed the Northwestern all-time goal record with 256. Lasota leads the Big Ten and is fifth in the NCAA in goals per game (4.17). Through 15 games, Lasota has 261 career goals which ties her for eighth all-time on the NCAA list and is also the most among all active players.
LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK
Last week the Wildcats had two consecutive top-10 wins, defeating #8 Michigan and #4 Notre Dame, combining for 29 goals from 10 student-athletes including Selena Lasota (9), Lauren Gilbert (6), Izzy Scane (5), Lindsey McKone (3), Claire Quinn (2), Megan Kinna (1), Emily Stein (1), Jill Girardi (1) and Liza Elder (1). Goalkeeper Mallory Weisse also grabbed a game-high 11 saves against Michigan and a career-high 14 against Notre Dame.
TEWAARATON TRIO
The Wildcats have three student-athletes on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Joining senior Selena Lasota in the second round of additions will be junior Lindsey McKone and first-year Izzy Scane. This is the third year Lasota has been included on the watch list and a first for both McKone and Scane. Scane is one of only two first-years to be included on this year's list.
B1G LEAD
The Wildcats lead the Big Ten in draw controls per game (17.47), points per game (24.60) and shots on goal per game (27.07). The 'Cats also have the nations top scoring offense (18) and lead the nation in shooting percentage (.514).
GO FOR GILBERT!
Sophomore Lauren Gilbert has scored at least one goal in each of the fifteen games the Wildcats have played this season. Gilbert has totaled 39 goals this season and 52 in her career.
DWYER ON THE DRAW
Sophomore Brennan Dwyer has 129 draw controls going into the final regular season game. She is currently the top sophomore in the NCAA and No. 5 overall for average draw controls per game (8.60).
