Wildcats Upset Irish, 15-11

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – No. 6 Northwestern bested No. 4 Notre Dame to upset the Fighting Irish, 15-11 on Saturday night at Arlotta Stadium.
Let by a career high 14 saves by senior goalkeeper Mallory Weisse, the Wildcat's defense held the Irish to their third lowest total of the season and only five goals in the second half.
On offense, the 'Cats were led by senior attacker Selena Lasota who had a game-high five goals, bringing her season total to 59. The #B1GCats had multiple offensive contributors with junior Lindsey McKone scoring two goals, first-year Izzy Scane scoring three, senior Liza Elder scoring one and sophomore Lauren Gilbert extender her scoring streak to 15 games with three.
Northwestern was dominant in the circle, winning 18 of the 28 total draws in the game. Sophomore Brennan Dwyer grabbed at least 10 draw controls for the fourth consectutive game, leading the 'Cats with 10 of the 18 draws.
Coming into this game, ND had the No. 2 ranked defense in the country, holding all 15 opponents this so far this season to under 13 goals. The Wildcats outscored Notre Dame 9-6 in the first half alone and shoot .68 pct on the night.
Chicago's Big Ten Team extends their record to 11-4 with one game left in the regular season. The 'Cats will be back on the field Thursday evening as they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in their final Big Ten match up at Ohio Stadium at 3:30 pm CT.
