Wildcats Host DePaul Wednesday in Crosstown Matchup

EVANSTON, Ill. – Following a three-game sweep over Rutgers at home to open up its Big Ten schedule, Northwestern will remain at home on Wednesday for a non-conference matinee against DePaul beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
Now 22-6 on the season, the Wildcats have won five-straight games and are off to their best start to a season since 2007. This past week, the Wildcats clocked in at No. 15 in the NCAA Women's Softball RPI rankings, the second-highest mark in the conference.
This will be the 62nd meeting between Northwestern and DePaul, with Northwestern leading the all-time series 40-21. The crosstown foes first matched up with one another in 1978 and have played in 34 of the 41 seasons since then. The Wildcats have won the last two matchups, including taking last years matchup 7-3 last season.
After going 2-0 with a save, a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/11.0 IP), 14 strikeouts and a home run at the plate this past weekend, Danielle Williams was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
The #B1GCats combined to hit .417 (30-for-72) at the plate in their three games against Rutgers, while holding the Scarlet Knights to a .130 (7-for-54) average. Each of the Wildcats' nine regular batters in the lineup recorded at least one extra-base hit over the weekend, as they belted seven homers, four doubles and a triple.
The Wildcats have done an excellent job starting strong this season as they have outscored their opponents 37-10 in the first inning this season and are 14-0 in games when they score in the first inning. The 'Cats are also 16-0 this season in games in which they hit at least one home run.
Following Wednesday's game, Chicago's Big Ten Team resume conference play and travel to Iowa for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 29. Fans looking to attend Wednesday's game can purchase tickets HERE. The game will also be streamed live via BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
