MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – In a Saturday night match up against Marquette, Northwestern continued their dominance, defeating the Golden Eagles 24-4.
After Marquette jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring their only goal of the half, the Wildcats made a statement by going on a 13-goal run to all but secure the game.
The first Wildcat goal of the day came from sophomore Jill Girardi for her eighth goal of the season. First-year Izzy Scane scored to put the 'Cats up 2-1 and never looked back, scoring back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 3-1.
Junior Lindsey McKone scored two unanswered goals before Girardi found the back of net to bring the score to 6-1 in favor of the #B1GCats. Scane secured her third score of the game before sophomore Lauren Gilbert netted her first of the game to extend the lead to seven.
After another score from Scane, senior Selena Lasota scored her first of the three goals of the game to put the 'Cats up nine with just under 13 mins left in the half. To close out the opening period, NU tallied three more scores from Claire Quinn, Gilbert and McKone to put the Wildcats up 12.
Coming out of the half, Chicago's Big Ten Team continued their dominance with a 5-1 run and goals from Lastoa, McKone, Scane, Megan Kinna and Emily Stein. Senior Leighton Yenor and sophomore Brianna Stroup both finished the game with back-to-back goals to bring their season totals to eight and four respectively. Sophomore Taylor Pinzone put the final punctuation on an already convincing win for the 'Cats with her first goal of the game with just over 2:30 remaining.
