3/2/2019 9:10:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

CHAPEL HILL, NC –  No. 5 Northwestern fell to No. 3 North Carolina Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, 21-11.

After the Tar Heels got out to a 2-0 lead, Claire Quinn responded with an early first-half goal to get the Wildcats on the board. UNC went on a 6-0 run before first-year Izzy Scane responded with her first goal of the game. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert found the back of the net after a North Carolina run to bring the score to 14-3 to close out the half.

Coming out of halftime, the 'Cats had back-to-back scores from Megan Kinna and Emily Stein, which helped build the momentum for a six-goal push from the Wildcats. After another UNC goal, Northwestern would respond with two goals from Gilbert, one from senior Selena Lasota, Leighton Yenor, Lindsey McKone and a second from Scane.

The 'Cats outscored the Tar Heels 8-7 in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back on the field Saturday night to take on No. 1 Boston College at 7 pm at Ryan Fieldhouse and Wilson Field. Saturday's game will be Alumni night, where the 2008 and 2009 National Championships teams will be honored during halftime.
