EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 9 Northwestern gave the No. 1 team in the country all it could handle, but could not overcome a second-half surge from Boston College in a 22-17 setback on Saturday night at Ryan Fieldhouse.
Eight different players scored goals for the 'Cats, with senior Selena Lasota leading the team with seven points and five goals on the night, bringing her season total to 18. With 220 career goals, she is now just five goals away from making it onto the NCAA Women's Lacrosse all-time goals list.
Sophomore Lauren Gilbert finished with four points and scored two goals to extend her goal streak to seven-consecutive games. She leads the team with 21 goals on the season through seven games.
Also finishing with four points was junior Lindsey McKone, who totaled three goals and an assist on the evening.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Julie Krupnick collected 10 saves on the night, marking her third game this season in which she recorded double-digit saves.
The Wildcats got off to a fast start as senior Liza Elder put one past Boston College just 20 seconds into the game for her sixth goal of the season to give Northwestern a 1-0 advantage.
After three quick goals from the Eagles, the 'Cats battled back to tie the game, 3-3, thanks to goals from Lasota and Gilbert.
Boston College took an 8-4 midway through the first half, however the #B1GCats closed the frame on a 4-1 run to pull within just one at halftime after McKone beat the buzzer and scored her first goal of the night with no time remaining in the first half.
The Wildcats tied the game twice in the second half but, after knotting the game up at 10, were unable to pull any closer to the Eagles the rest of the way.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Thursday, March 14 when it opens Big Ten play versus Rutgers in Piscataway, NJ. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
