EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will head west to Iowa City to take on the No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
Northwestern enters the game at 12-10. Senior center Dererk Pardon had 18 points and nine rebounds last time out against Penn State, while Vic Law added a double-double with both ten points and rebounds. The senior captains have both recorded double-digit scoring in 16 games this season.
The Wildcats and Hawkeyes have already played once this season. The two teams met in Welsh-Ryan Arena on January 9 and the Hawkeyes pulled away in the final minutes for a 73-63 victory.
STORYLINES TO WATCH
HOLD THE LINE: Northwestern has limited opponents to shooting just 29.1 percent from three this season, the best mark in the conference and 12th best nationally. Iowa has made 37.3 of their three-point attempts and has attempted the fourth-most threes in the conference, so clipping the Hawkeyes' wings from downtown could change the game.
LAW MAN: Senior forward Vic Law has averaged 8.7 rebounds over the last seven games, including four games with more than ten rebounds. His 174 career three-pointers is also the tenth most in program history.
PASS IT FORWARD: The Wildcats have had at least 13 assists in four of their last six games, and their 320 assists on the season are the fifth most in the Big Ten. The passing comes from all over, with Law, Anthony Gaines, A.J. Turner, and Ryan Greer all having led the team in assists in a game during that stretch.
QUOTABLES
"We need Vic to be aggressive. Guys are struggling. We're scoring in the low 50s. Look around. Your weapons have to be aggressive. Early in the year, before he got a little banged up with his knee, he was close to a 20 a game scorer. When we were playing well he's been a guy who's taken a lot of shots all year. ... We need him to stay aggressive and keep his confidence up."
-- Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins on Vic Law's offense
"The three point shot is such a big weapon in college basketball. When you allow teams to get going from three the scoreboard can ring up really quickly. It's something that we do. we try and defend the three well."
-- Collins on Northwestern's focus on defending three point attempts
"Things change quickly in this league. You have an opportunity to win a game, or put a couple together and win and get your confidence going, you can change it quick. We have work to do. We're just really struggling offensively and that's where we're going to have to find a way."
-- Collins on getting back on a winning path
