Pardon Scores 18 in 59-52 Setback to Penn State

2/4/2019 9:56:00 PM | Men's Basketball

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern fell to Penn State, 59-52, Monday night at the New Welsh-Ryan Arena, despite an 18-point performance by senior center Dererk Pardon.

Northwestern had a solid game defensively, holding Penn State to 28.6 percent shooting in the second half while forcing the Nittany Lions to go zero-for-six from beyond the arc during the frame. Offensively however, Northwestern could not mount much momentum, shooting 31.7 percent from the field to score just 52 points.

The Wildcats were led by Pardon, who was honored pregame for becoming the 37th player in Northwestern history to score 1,000 points in their career. The captain had 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, bringing his career rebound total to 708, becoming just the eighth Wildcat to record over 700 career rebounds. Pardon also has now scored double-digit point totals in 20 of 22 games this season, and 15 or more points in seven Big Ten games.

Fellow senior captain Vic Law added a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 6 assists. This is the 16th time this season the duo of senior captains have scored double-digit points in the same game.

Sophomore guard Anthony Gaines grabbed five rebounds to follow up one of the best games of his career, his ninth game of the season with five-plus boards.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back as they travel to Iowa next to face the Hawkeyes on Sunday, Feb. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
