EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern is back at the new Welsh Ryan Arena Thursday evening as they prepare to take on Minnesota. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.

This is the Wildcats' last home game before going back on the road. In NU's last Big Ten matchup — a home affair against top-25 Wisconsin, senior Vic Law finished yet another game with double-digit points, his 22nd game this season. Senior Dererk Pardon was the other Wildcat to grab double-digit points, ending the game with 21.

Minnesota is currently 17-11 overall and 7-10 in conference play. The Gophers are coming to Evanston on a two-game losing streak, dropping games to Michigan and Rutgers.

STORYLINES TO WATCH

GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Wildcats continue to play strong defensively throughout the season. In their last game against Wisconsin, Northwestern had more blocked shots (7) and more steals (6) than the Badgers. The 'Cats are also ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten for three-point field goal defense, holding their opponents to 29.4 percent.

THE LAW MAN: Throughout this season, senior Vic Law continues to put up numbers for the Wildcats. Law has posted double-digit points in 22 games so far this season and is currently on a six-game streak finishing games in double-digits.

HOME COOKIN': Three of Northwestern's final four games are at the new Welsh-Ryan Arena, then the 'Cats will play in the Big Ten Championship in Chicago at the United Center. Northwestern is 9-6 at home this season.

QUOTABLES

"I just want to thank our fans that came out tonight. The student section was packed, the place was packed. It was the kind of atmosphere that you want. You don't always get [it], but we had it tonight. Our guys really fed off that energy."
Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins on the atmosphere in the new Welsh Ryan Arena

"It was a great atmosphere with all the students. I am so thankful for them. They make this environment great to play in."
Senior Dererk Pardon on the atmosphere

"I thought our guys left their hearts on the floor. I thought we executed well. I thought we got great shots. I thought we were a 'together' group. It just didn't turn out our way, which is disappointing."
Collins on the game versus Wisconsin

"We've been terrific defensively all year. Our problem has been our ability to score a lot of the time and to manufacture offense. If you look at the way we've been scoring the last seven games, if you take out the Iowa game, we are in the low fifties or forties in every game. You are not going to win in the Big Ten scoring 48 points or 52 points. But I thought we executed well tonight."
Collins on the team's offense
