‘Cats Cruise Past Canisius, 20-6

 BUFFALO, NY – No. 4 Northwestern faced off against Canisius and improved its record to 4-1 on the season with a dominant 20-6 win.
 
From the first whistle, the 'Cats put their foot on the gas and never looked back. Senior Claire Quinn reeled off two unanswered goals within the first two minutes of the game to help Northwestern jump out to a quick 2-0 lead. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert joined in on the action with her first goal of the game to extend the lead to a 3-0 Wildcat advantage.
 
After a Canisius goal, the Wildcats responded with three unanswered goals, two from junior Lindsey McKone and a third from Quinn. A second score by the Golden Griffins led to two additional Northwestern goals from Gilbert and Nell Copeland.
 
The 'Cats responded to a late first-half Canisius goal by going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by first-year Elle Hansen's first goal of the season and capped off by a behind the back score from senior Selena Lasota for her third goal of the game.
 
Canisius responded with two goals before sophomore Brianna Stroup scored to extend the NU lead to 15-5.
 
The Golden Griffins scored their final goal with just over 14 minutes left in the game, while the 'Cats continued to score at will with five unanswered goals to punctuate their win.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action March 2 to take on No. 3 North Carolina in Chapel Hill starting at 11:30 am CT.
 
Team Notes:
- The Wildcat defense caused a total of 10 turnovers, their second highest single game tally of the season.
 
Individual Notes:
- The Wildcats had five athletes with multiple goals, Lasota (3), McKone (3), Quinn (3), Gilbert (2) and Hansen (2).
- First-year Greta Stahl grabbed a career-high six draw controls to contribute to the 'Cats 13 total draw controls.
- First-year Elle Hansen contributed two goals to the Wildcats 20 goal total, scoring the first of her career.
