Wisconsin Prevails in 69-64 Saturday Night Thriller

2/23/2019 10:40:00 PM | Men's Basketball

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern fell to No. 22 Wisconsin at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday night, 69-64. Seniors Vic Law and Dererk Pardon each logged 20-plus point games in the tight contest.

The game was tied as late as 3:15 left in the second half with both squads knotted up at 60 points apiece. Law made three three-pointers in slightly over two minutes toward the end of the game to put the contest in striking distance.

Law poured in 24 points and contributed six assists, both game highs. This is his 22nd double-digit scoring effort of the season and 69th of his career, as well as the seventh time this season he has scored 20-plus points.

NU was also aided by the production of the senior captain Pardon, who ended with 21 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the field including several emphatic dunks.

The program leader in career field goal percentage did a solid job on the other side of the ball as well, holding two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection Ethan Happ to just five points on 2-for-6 shooting in the first half while also tallying a pair of blocks.

As a team, Northwestern committed just three turnovers over the course of the game, their lowest number in a contest all season. The 'Cats also covered their average blocks per game in the first half alone with five.

This game was a team effort as a total of seven 'Cats contributed to the scoring effort while four Wildcats had at least one block. Five different Northwestern players tallied a steal.

Northwestern returns to action on Thursday, February 28 as they take on Minnesota in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
