Northwestern Improves to 2-0 with 21-15 win over No. 25 Dartmouth

EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 7 Northwestern turned in a decisive 21-15 victory over No. 25 Dartmouth on Friday night at Ryan Fieldhouse and Wilson Field to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Krupnick had a career night in the net as she finished with a career-high 16 saves, the most ever by an NU goalkeeper in a single game.
Junior Lindsey McKone led all players with a career-high seven points, including three goals and a career-high four assists.
It was a balanced scoring effort all-around for the Wildcats as 11 different players scored goals, including seven who finished with at least two. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert paced the team with four goals and five points, both of which are career bests.
Northwestern has now started 2-0 in five of its last six seasons, and has outscored opponents 42-26 in its the first two games.
Selena Lasota opened the scoring with two goals in the first three minutes to give the 'Cats an early 2-0 advantage. After Dartmouth responded with two goals of their own, Northwestern went on a 3-0 run–with goals from Liza Elder, Meghan Duffy and Claire Quinn–and did not relinquish control of the lead for the rest of the game.
Leading 5-4 midway through the first half, the 'Cats strung together five-consecutive goals to take a 10-4 lead. McKone had two of the goals, while Jill Girardi, Leighton Yenor and Quinn each added one as well.
Gilbert added two more goals at the end of the first half to give the Wildcats a 12-5 advantage heading into the break.
Dartmouth opened the second half with three goals to cut the Wildcats' lead to 12-8, however NU responded with three-straight goals of its own from Brianna Stroup, McKone and Emily Stein.
The Wildcats took advantage of penalties from the Big Green as they scored woman-up goals in the second half alone. Two more goals from Gilbert, along with two from Meghan Kinna helped secure the victory.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action this Sunday, February 17 when they host No. 24 Duke at Ryan Fieldhouse and Wilson Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.
