2018-19 Season Stats

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern is set to host No. 6 Ohio State on Sunday in a dual match at the new Welsh-Ryan Arena, with the action scheduled to begin at noon CT.

The 'Cats are coming off a defeat to No. 3 Iowa last weekend in a match where No. 1 Sebastian Rivera and No. 3 Ryan Deakin continued their impressive campaigns. Rivera won his bout by major decision to improve to a perfect 18-0, while Deakin notched a 6-1 decision to rack up his 19th victory.

The Buckeyes suffered their first setback of the season last Friday, falling at No. 4 Michigan, 19-17. OSU holds a 7-1 mark overall and 3-1 record in Big Ten play this year and boasts six wrestlers ranked in the top seven of their respective weight classes.

Fans can expect to see two bouts between ranked grapplers on Sunday, with exciting matchups at 157 and heavyweight. Deakin is set to take on No. 6 Ke-Shawn Hayes in what will be the first-ever meeting between the two. At 285, No. 15 Conan Jennings will take the mat against No. 19 Chase Singletary in a rematch from this year's CKLV Invitational, where Singletary took a narrow, 6-5 decision.

Sunday will be the first visit to Evanston for Ohio State since December of 2015, when NU hosted the seventh-ranked Buckeyes and won four bouts in a competitive match.

The contest will mark the third-straight matchup against teams ranked in the top seven nationally for Northwestern, as well as the sixth-straight against top-11 competition. Eight of the nine conference opponent on the schedule this year for the 'Cats are currently ranked in the national polls.
