Young's Career Game Lifts Wildcats to Win Over Cougars

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a convincing 72-54 win over the SIUE Cougars.
Redshirt first-year Ryan Young paced the Wildcats with a career-high 25 points, 18 of which were scored in the second half. Young also posted a career high four assists to go along with 12 rebounds, giving him his second double-double of the season. His 25 points scored are the most by any Wildcat player this season and the most since December 8, 2018 when Vic Law scored 25 against DePaul.
Young was one of three 'Cats players to score in double figures, as Pat Spencer added 15 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. The graduate transfer from Davidsonville, MD. is now averaging 12.4 points and four assists over the Wildcats' last five games.
Junior Anthony Gaines chipped in with 13 points of his own, nine of which came in the second half. Gaines also converted on a season-high two threes and pulled down four rebounds.
The Wildcats had success throughout the afternoon down low, scoring a season-high 44 points in the paint while the defense limited the Cougars to just 26. The 'Cats also made life difficult on the Cougars offense all game, forcing 18 turnovers which they converted into 19 points on the other end. Spencer led the defensive efforts with a career-high four steals.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action this Wednesday, Dec. 18, as the 'Cats welcome No. 15 Michigan State to Welsh-Ryan Arena at 7 p.m.
