EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern returns home to battle Indiana for the second time this season on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT.

Last time the Wildcats and Hoosiers faced off, NU was narrowly edged in a 68-66 thriller in Bloomington on Dec. 1 in the Big Ten opener. Senior center Dererk Pardon tallied an efficient 24 points on 11-of-15 from the field while reaching a double-double with 10 rebounds. Senior forward Vic Law also amassed double-digits in points, scoring 16, including two three pointers.

In four career games against IU, Pardon is averaging 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds. In five career contests, Law is seven-of-16 from three-point range (43.8 percent).

The last time the two squads met at Welsh-Ryan Arena, NU topped the Hoosiers, 68-55, on January 29, 2017.

Northwestern is coming off a 65-57 victory over Rutgers in Piscataway on Friday, January 18. Pardon and graduate guard Ryan Taylor both contributed double-digit points.

Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins and his coaching staff will be participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

The Wildcats are in the midst of playing four of five games away from home with Tuesday night's contest the only one NU will play at the New Welsh-Ryan Arena between January 10 and February 3.

STORYLINES TO WATCH

THIRTEEN TO 1K: Senior center Dererk Pardon has 987 career points. Once he tallies 13 more points, he will be the third active Wildcat — and the 37th player in program history — to amass a thousand career points. With graduate guard Ryan Taylor's 1,461 career points — between Ohio, Evansville, and NU — the Wildcats will become one of only five programs in the nation with three 1,000-plus point scorers.

MAKING GAINES: Sophomore guard Anthony Gaines has made significant strides in his second collegiate campaign. In over 25 minutes per game, he is scoring 5.6 points per game and bringing down 4.2 rebounds per game. He posted a team-best +17 plus/minus in NU's win over Rutgers on Jan. 18.

GET TO THE LINE: Northwestern is one of only two teams in the Big Ten to have three players in the top-15 in the conference for free throw percentage: Vic Law (6th), A.J. Turner (9th), and Anthony Gaines (13th). As a team NU is shooting 73.4 percent from the charity stripe, the third-best rate in the Conference.

QUOTABLES

"Overall, it's life in this league. Every game. All the coaches are saying it, you have to focus on the game you're playing, try to dig in and get a win. To win on the road in this conference, you have to enjoy it no matter how you get it. I'm really proud of my team."
  • Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins on Big Ten play

"Overall, I just thought it was a really hard-fought game. I thought both teams played with a high sense of urgency. We're both coming out of the gates with our records where a win is big for either team tonight. I think both teams had a high sense of urgency for that. We were just able to make a couple more plays tonight to get the win."
  • Collins on NU's defense down the stretch against Rutgers

"I was just really proud he was out there, to be honest with you. … He really hasn't practiced at all. He came in yesterday, got his haircut and said 'I'm going tomorrow.' I said that's great. … Just his presence on the glass. He gets five assists, he gets seven rebounds. Didn't hit his three ball. Some of that, I think, is explosion. But he gets the big bucket late where he drives. I thought he hit two big free throws inside of a minute when we needed it."
  • Collins on senior forward Vic Law's return to the hardwood
