Deakin Pads Impressive Résumé Against #7 Minnesota

EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 3 Ryan Deakin added yet another top-ten win to his record Sunday afternoon in a match against No. 7 Minnesota at the New Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The redshirt sophomore defeated No. 7 Steve Bleise by a score of 9-4. The victory was Deakin's sixth of the season over a nationally-ranked opponent and his fourth over a wrestler in the top ten of the weight class. Deakin has now won 18 of his 20 bouts on the year.
The Wildcats also got a victory from Tyler Morland, who wrestled an exciting match against Minnesota's Carson Brolsma. The redshirt first-year led into the third period but Brolsma was able to tie it up at 7-7 and send the bout into overtime. In the first extra period, Morland took his opponent down within the first minute to win by sudden victory. The result was the second conference win of the season for the Brighton, Michigan native.
The Gophers took the dual, which was the second of the weekend for Chicago's Big Ten Team following a victory over No. 11 Wisconsin, by a score of 29-12.
NU will be back in action next Sunday, Jan. 27 when No. 4 Iowa visits Evanston for an afternoon dual. The action will start at 2 p.m. CT at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
