EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will kick off its 15th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance versus Richmond at Towson University Friday evening. The Wildcats earned an at-large bid with a 13-5 record.
The 'Cats and Spiders have met eight times in program history, with each team winning four times. This will be the first meeting between the squads since 2002 when NU revitalized its program.
Combe Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller will look to improve to 15-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. Amonte Hiller earned her 40th NCAA Tournament win last season with a 15-7 victory over Albany in the first round.
The Al-Big Ten Team was announced last week and the Wildcats' six selection tied for the most in the league. Senior Sheila Nesselbush and junior Selena Lasota were named unanimous selections, while senior Lindsay Darrell, senior Ally Mueller, senior Shelby Fredericks and redshirt first year Julie Krupnick earned All-Big Ten honors for the first time in their careers.
Senior Shelby Fredericks became the program's all-time leader in draw controls versus Penn State with 474. Fredericks, the nation's active leader, ranks fifth in the country this season with 8.14 draw controls per game.
Junior attack Selena Lasota enters the NCAA Tournament on a seven-game point streak in which she has recorded 38 points (5.4/game). Lasota has registered three seven-point games during the stretch.
