'Cats Dominate Spartans at Home

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern took down Michigan State in convincing fashion Friday evening for its third conference win in the last four matches.
The contest got underway with a quick start for the 'Cats, as all three duos performed well in doubles competition. Dominik Stary and Ben Vandixhorn cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1 before Nick Brookes and Jason Seidman finished off a 6-3 victory at No. 2 to give NU a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles play, Stary quickly added to the advantage by dispatching Brett Forman 6-4, 6-0. Brookes recorded a victory shortly after, winning in straight sets over Michael Dube. The first year has won four times in his past five decisions at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
With NU leading 3-0 and needing just one team point, Chris Ephron dominated his second set to triumph 6-3, 6-0 and clinch the match. Ephron is now undefeated in his last eight appearances for the 'Cats.
Vandixhorn went on to win at No. 3 as the teams finished out the remaining three matchups. The junior dropped the first set but came back to record a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. Seidman also notched a win with a three-set triumph at No. 5 as the final score read 6-1.
Chicago's Big Ten Team improves to 9-11 on the year with the win and now boasts a 4-2 mark in Big Ten play. Michigan State moves to 8-13 on the campaign and 1-5 in the conference.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday with a match against the No. 11 Michigan Wolverines. The action will start at noon at Combe Tennis Center.
