Ephron Continues Impressive Run at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Northwestern fell to No. 46 Penn State Friday evening at the Sarni Tennis Center despite a spirited performance from sophomore Chris Ephron.
The Nittany Lions put the pressure on early with a win at No. 1 doubles. Ephron and Antonioni Fasano, playing together at No. 3, then took their set by a 6-4 scoreline as the doubles point came down to the final matchup. At No. 2, the set was a tight one but eventually taken by PSU, and the first team point went to the hosts.
In singles play, it did not take long for NU to tie the contest, as Ephron continued his recent dominance at the No. 6 spot in the lineup with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the first match to finish. The Pensacola, Florida native is now unbeaten in his last ten appearances for the 'Cats, including a stretch of six straight wins. Ephron is also the only Wildcat with a perfect record in Big Ten play.
Penn State, however, got back on track after Ephron's second win of the evening and did not look back. The Nittany Lions won each of the five remaining singles matches, three of which were not decided until the final frame, to notch a 6-1 victory in the contest.
Northwestern drops to 9-13 on the year, and an even 4-4 in the conference. PSU improves to 14-9 overall with an identical 4-4 mark in the Big Ten.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, visiting No. 3 Ohio State for its final road matchup of the season. First serve is scheduled for noon CT.
